This year, too, turtle conservation groups have built a vivarium for their eggs on Cabral Beach , just steps from the town of Sal Rei, the capital of Boa Vista. Around 300 nests have been transferred to the 2024 vivarium, a truly impressive number considering the proximity to the urbanized area of the beach chosen by the loggerhead sea turtles .

The eggs are collected by volunteers at the beginning of the laying season, starting around mid-July . The vivarium remains active until the last hatches occur and the hatchlings have burrowed out of the sand. This usually happens around mid-November. This operation allows the eggs and hatchlings to be protected from predators. A short walk from the town of Sal Rei takes you to the installation, where you can admire something very rare .

But it is also a place that requires care, respect, and protection if we are to preserve its exceptional biodiversity. And ILB works to convey these principles to those who visit Boa Vista.
