This month begins with a brief roundup of news and events about Boa Vista and the entire archipelago, helping you get to know the islands even better and find out what to do. And with one piece of news to remember: qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup!

1 - Sports - Cape Verde is at the World Cup for the first time! The country practically stopped to watch the final 90 minutes that led the island republic to qualification. It is thus the smallest nation to achieve this milestone after Iceland. The Cape Verdean national team, led by "Bubista," won 3-0 against Eswatini. Cape Verde has added another page to its history by participating in the 2026 World Cup, a dream come true. In addition to its golden beaches, champion kite surfing, and lush nature, from today the African archipelago will also become a reference point for football.

2- Nature - For two weeks in September, the BIOS CV camp hosted the international training of the LIFE Turtlenest program, co-financed by the European Union's LIFE program and the Natura 2000 network.
The event was coordinated by Legambiente and brought together numerous institutions. Among these were Beta, which played a key role in organizing the camp, and the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, along with universities, regional agencies, and research centers such as the University of Barcelona, ISPRA, ARPAT, CESTMED, Sapienza University of Rome, ENCI, and the regions of Lazio, Puglia, Campania, and Basilicata.
During the training, members of these organizations learned techniques for the management and protection of sea turtle nests, in a context where nesting is increasingly frequent in the Mediterranean.

3- Flights – Boa Vista and Cape Verde are getting closer: new flights to Boa Vista from several European capitals. Starting in October, direct flights from Zurich with Edelweiss will be available to Boa Vista, Sal, Praia, and São Vicente. Easy Jet will connect Milan to Boa Vista via Lisbon or Porto, with direct flights from Milan to Sal starting at the end of October. Transavia will connect Milan with Paris, and Nantes, Toulouse, and Boadeaux will be added starting at the end of October. From Italy, to reach Paris, you can now opt for the TGV Inoui train, which runs from Milan or Turin to Gare de Lyon; or you can choose between Frecciarossa and Italo.
Still speaking of flights, international flights to S. Vicente are increasing every week, operated by Cabo Verde Airlines, TUI, TAP, Transavia, Easy Jet and Edelweiss.

4 - Kite surfing - Another victory for Airton Cozzolino . Originally from Cape Verde and an Italian citizen, he represented Italy and took victory in the opening round of the 2025 GKA Kitesurf Cup in Dakhla. His victory boosts Cape Verde as a water sports destination, celebrated for its still-wild nature and favorable winds.

5- Morna Week - The musical genre, known worldwide thanks to Cesària Évora and recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity , is said to have originated in Boa Vista . From September 22nd to 27th, a major cultural event dedicated to the Morna and in homage to the musician Herculano Viera was held on the island. It began with a moment at the CAC, the cultural center, with Bem Canta Morna , an open microphone for artists and lovers of the musical genre. On the 23rd, a concert combining history and melody was held in the village of Fundo dasa Figueras. On the 24th, the Morna entered schools as part of the Mais Cultura na Escola project. The tribute to the Morna concluded at Praia Diante in Sal Rei, where musicians and audiences celebrated the music by the sea.
6- It is not a period of great events, but September 12 was Nationality Day (National Holiday) and the anniversary of the birth of Amílcar Cabral, independence hero, is commemorated with celebrations and public demonstrations.
